About

One of Peru's most vivid Andean-Catholic fiestas: for several days masked dancers fill the highland streets of Paucartambo, east of Cusco, in a riot of costume, music and procession.

Highlights

  • Dozens of traditional masked dance troupes perform through the town's narrow streets.
  • A deeply local celebration that blends Andean and Catholic tradition.
  • Falls in the heart of the dry season, close to Inti Raymi in Cusco.

Practical tips

  • Paucartambo is a long mountain road from Cusco — most visitors join an organised day or overnight trip.
  • Accommodation is extremely limited during the fiesta; plan early or stay in Cusco.
  • Respect that this is a religious community festival, not a staged show.
